ACF and WordPress – Jeff McNear

By special request of Ken Mick! An overview of Advanced Custom Fields and why I use it on every WordPress project.

With the advent of Gutenberg and the increasing popularity of other page builders like Beaver Builder the WordPress ecosphere is increasingly embraching drag and drop process to achieve layout configuration. It is important to realize that the data generated via the page builder process generally lives within a single database field.

Plugins like WooCommerce and the Events Calendar create custom post types which contain custom fields not found in default post types, this allows individual fields to be selectable via query or be universally re-positioned via template coding. Advanced Custom Fields facilitates the creation of custom fields which remains a very viable way to standardize content, achieve complex layouts and allow selection of individual pieces of post information in archive queries.
